There were issues arising from the Remnant-Ascended War on both sides. While the Imperials were having an increasingly restive and in some cases outright rebellious populace in the Core worlds, and problems getting the materials to their massive industrial capacity, on the leadership front things had in the past few weeks suddenly snapped into place. Operation Cinder was no more, the old Imperial governing Shadow Council swept away in a few 'accidents' and on occasion very public trials for corruption and sedition.
Which left three standing at the top of a mountain of corpses: Grand Admiral Sloane, with the fleet from Jakku and the loyalty of the Imperial Navy, still by far the strongest force in the galaxy on paper at least. Moff Maksim, leader of the Civilian branch of the Imperial Government, the Shadow Council's last standing act was to promote him to Grand Moff. And at the center of the web, the spider queen herself. Ysanne Isard.
"Imperial Citizens, following the treasonous acts of Gallius Rax and his traitorous subordinates, including but not limited to leaking plans on Imperial fleet movements to the Rebels in an effort to undermine threats to his schemes to take sole control of the Empire, the following are wanted criminals to the state." The screen split into a lengthy list of various followers and subordinates of Rax who had escaped the idiocy of Jakku or had been posted elsewhere. The news speaker continued on as it went past. "Those harbouring these traitors will by extension become enemies of the state. There will be sizeable rewards for information linked to solid identification of these individuals, and bounties for their capture and return to Imperial justice." The list consumed the rest of the screen for a few more minutes as thousands of names, many of them who had hands in Operation Cinder but some were merely roadblocks to this consolidation of power by the triumvirate.
Another announcement followed "An interim government has been formed. Grand Moff Pollus Maksim, formerly of Oversector Kuat, will represent all civilian interests with the aid of the Moff's Council pending it's security clearance. Grand Admiral Sloane will represent the Imperial Military. A third party poled from various Imperial agencies will represent the third vote." Ysanne Isard's hand at work, she'd never be the public face but to those who knew, it was obvious she was going to be the one calling the shots. "Certain laws will be relaxed in the coming weeks following procedures to ensure a smooth transfer of power to local authorities and greater localized autonomy in recognition of the unique nature of the worlds who make up the Empire." A carrot of limited self-rule to be dangled to some of the more upset planets. "While anyone sponsoring seditious or rebellious tendencies in the face of this existential threat from beyond the Unknown Regions will be punished in the full force of Imperial Authority." The stick in turn.

Imperial - Ascended War
Major Battles
Battle of Mondress
Opening battle in the war, the Battle of Mondress was a rapid success for the Ascended Hierarchy owing primarily to the weak local garrison and the aged and faulty ships that made up the sector fleet, primarily Victory and Acclamator class ships. Mondress' small population and relative lack of importance resulted in Imperial commanders ordering a withdrawal of remaining forces when it quickly became apparent that they were facing an overwhelming threat that had kept them pinned to the planetary gravity well. The battle saw the deployment of Cain, Roc, Azrael and Astaroth class ships on the Ascended side.
Battle of Ansion
Another low population settlement on the edge of Unknown Space, the battle here was brief, primarily a withdrawing action by Imperial Navy ships in orbit who were forewarned following the Battle of Mondress. This battle was notable for being one of the few battles in the early phase of the war where Imperial losses were less than Ascended, and would inform later Imperial tactics of compact formations and increased reliance on Lancer Frigates to protect from both fighter and the heavy hitting Astaroth Corvettes.
Battle of Kril'Dor
Following numerous skirmishes, the Battle of Kril'Dor was the first major Imperial counter attack in the war. Imperial tactics, and the presence of the Super Star Destroyer Wrathful provided the initial successes in the fight, with damage to Imperial Star Destroyers kept limited as the Wrathful provided cover for the advance. However, this appeared to be a trap as shortly after the Wrathfuls shields were dropped, the Ahriman class made it's debut in the war, with the Supernova punching a hole through the Wrathful in one shot. Grand Admiral Schost retreated from the engagement with limited losses, but the loss of the Kril'Dor Tibana refineries was a serious blow to the Imperial war effort.
Battle of Iridonia
The first successful battle for the Imperials in the war, the Battle of Iridonia saw the Ahriman Event Horizon and a small support fleet chased off by the local Sector fleet that had been building up secretly in orbit in an attempted raid on the Ascended supply lines. While the raid was called off due to damage to the fleet, the tactics learned in the battle have been working to shape Imperial doctrine in the war, notably the successes of the TIE Advanced and TIE Avenger fighter/bombers in keeping the Ascended fighters and bombers in check, which allowed the Imperial fleet to close in under the Ahriman's effective firing range.
Battle of Glee Anselm
The largest battle to date, and close to the Battle of Endor in size, the Battle of Glee Anselm saw the commitment of the Event Horizon and Quasar against the Wrathful and a large portion of the Imperial fleet assigned to the war front. While the Wrathful was able to withdraw from the battle, it had sustained moderate damage. In turn, the Ahriman Quasar was ambushed and crippled by Imperial II Star Destroyers, though they were lost in turn to Astaroth wolf packs and focused fire from Cain particle cannons. The battle ended with the Imperial fleet withdrawing from the system, ceding the planet to the Ascended. The battle losses were heavy for both sides, but tilted to the favor of the Ascended.
The largest ripple from the Battle of Glee Anselm however was political, with Fleet Admiral Gallius Rax having finally lost enough face with his continued holding over Jakku finally exceeding the patience of the rest of the Naval leadership. It is unclear who shot the former Fleet Admiral, but his crimes soon came out into the open, and a drastic reorganization of Imperial politics at the top levels followed, along with a sizeable commitment of forces to that front.
