"All clear, Sabre Leader."
Just like everything had been for the last several hours of patrol. Escorting civilian freighters to designated space lanes beyond Shogun, keeping watch on ships hauling wreckage from the battle prior out of orbit and towards the larger ships for deconstruction, flight maneuvers to be practiced with the pilots and the rookie. As much as the others found it dreadfully boring, Gaele was focused on all tasks with the energy only a newcomer could hone. The novelty of space flight had yet to wear off, and once she was over the disorienting quality of the sea of stars, she gave the impression that that wonder would never quite fade away.
She'd transferred her piloting skills rather well to the headhunter, having been given time. The last run on the debris field, targeting it with blasters for target practice, had gone rather decently.
"We got any other missions waitin' for us, Sabre Leader?" Gaele chimed in on the comm, her smile audible. A small chorus of groans echoed on the channel from other members who were growing rather tired of milk runs and babysitting.
Beep
A quick look at the scanners revealed something that had not quite been there before, inching its way into the system.
"Uh...Sabre Leader? We have an unregistered Carrack-Class cruiser on the edge of the system, movin' towards Shogun," Gaele said, looking to the readout. "That one of ours?"
"This is Sabre Two. Incoming transmission from Defiant. Sounds like that's a negative. We're weapons free. Sai, that thing's Zsinj's. It comes around the planet and sees the Defiant, they're infiltration plan is going to go up in smoke."
"Hey Boss? We neutralize that cruiser and don't break it so bad..."
"Needs a big crew though."
"Just means we could sell it to the Republic, then, an' buy our own ship," Gaele chimed in, feeling her gut go cold. "Yer orders, ma'am?"
