It is currently the second month of the year 5 ABY, or After the Battle of Yavin. Nearly a year ago, the largest and most important engagement in the Galactic Civil War was fought: The Battle of Endor. At the end of the battle, both the Emperor and Darth Vader were dead, the second Death Star was destroyed and the Imperial Navy suffered tremendous losses and was left in disarray.
In the months since, many former Imperial Admirals and Moffs turned traitor, became Warlords over their own territories and enemies to both the Empire and the nascent New Republic. Other groups, such as crime syndicates and isolationist sectors, have likewise thrown off the imperial rule, but not submitted to the Republic.
The transition from Rebel Alliance to New Republic is far from smooth, and the Republic is stretched thin. They rely on fast-deploying fleets of starfighters, friendly smugglers and mercenary agents to keep together, while building up the fleet that they hope will soon be able to match the Empire in battle.
Still holding onto the Core of the galaxy, the Empire is divided. Factions, both secret and overt, maneuver and jockey for power, each one trying to reform the Empire in their own shape.
It is a time of chaos, where a single person really can make a difference.
