The first breach of peace came when a Victory-class Star Destroyer operated by the imperial inquisition dropped into the Zsinj-occupied system of Listehol, and proceeded to occupy the largest settlement in the planet. The town was left a broken shell of its former self by the time the small strike-force departed, initiating the conflict.
For a time, the only exchanges were minor skirmishes and scouting missions, but the recent destruction of Dor-Nameth changed that. Warlord Zsinj holds the Empire responsible for the devastation of an entire populated world under his protection, and both factions are now gearing for large-scale warfare.
The loss of face that comes from having two of his worlds destroyed out from under him has hit Zsinj's image hard, and the loss of strategic shipyard and a Star Destroyer has set him back in the Bright Jewel Sector. Despite that, many still believe that he has a reasonable fighting chance, as his naval forces are far more organized, allowing him to act much faster and more decisively.

The First Offensive
After several days of low-scale warfare at the borders between Zsinj's territory and the Empire, the first major strike has finally been carried out - and it was by Zsinj.
Emerging into the Ithor system with complete surprise, Zsinj had personal command over his flagship, the Super Star Destroyer Iron Fist. That ship was accompanied by three Imperial-class Star Destroyers, as well as a flotilla of a dozen support craft.
Imperial forces stationed at Ithor, comprised of an Imperial-class and two Victory-class ships, as well as two support gunships, surrendered without a fight. Zsinj's forces remained in-system just long enough to handle the surrender, taking the ships intact as prizes and carrying their crews off as prisoners of war. The planetary garrison voluntarily turned traitor against the empire.
With no word of warning having been sent out, Zsinj was freed to perform the exact same act again onto the nearby star system of Urce, with similar outcome. His support vessels then spread across all minor star systems, many of them not featured in large-scale galactic maps and several not even named, taking on what remains of the imperial presence in the Lesser Plooriod Cluster.
In total, Zsinj captured over a dozen capital ships and nearly half a hundred star systems, with negligible losses.
The Empire, meanwhile, has failed to react to the attack. The Imperial Ruling Council continues to pool forces and prepare for a major setpiece battle against the Republic, which they have been preparing for months. Only local forces already assigned to the sectors along Zsinj's border are being raised and prepared to defend themselves, but with a Super Star Destroyer among Zsinj's forces, it is unlikely any of those defense fleets will even put up a fight.
